THE CHESAPEAKE VENTURE SAILING ASSOCIATION

The Chesapeake Venture Sailing Association (CVSA) is a cordial organization dedicated to group cruising; racing in a competitive but friendly atmosphere; swapping ideas and sea stories; and generally perpetuating sailing in a safe and enjoyable manner.

Originally an organization for owners of Venture (now MacGregor) trailerable sailboats, CVSA now includes many members with larger boats - yet who have stayed with the group to continue friendships formed by sailing together over the years. Some members have never owned a Venture.

We have a wide range of experience in our club, from novices to racers and blue water cruisers. Some of our members cruise the Bay from the C&D Canal to the Rappahanock River. Included are all kinds of cruising/sailing vessels ranging in size from 19 to 34 feet.

From early April to November, there are On-the-Water club functions in which all may participate. During the colder months, the club meets on the first Friday of the month at the Crofton Junior High School.

The annual due is $15 per boat with no entrance or initiation fee. A monthly newsletter, Joint Venture, is published to keep members informed of club news, scheduled events, helpful hints, and interesting stories. Our meetings and rendezvous are informal, and new members or visitors are welcome at any time.

We schedule a well-rounded blend of exploring new cruising grounds and re-discovering old favorites. Whether we cruise to scenic Eastern Shore ports such as St. Michael's, or gunkhole "backyard" waters of the Western Shore, you can be sure of sailing in a charming atmosphere.

Destination protocol involves rafting up for casual pleasantries, picnics, visits to museums, and evening anchorages which are usually near good restaurants. For some really good eating, try one of our "moveable feasts", in which each boat brings and shares a specialty of the galley.

CVSA offers one of the few opportunities to enter organized racing without measurement or other expenses. You don't need 10 deck apes and two spinnakers to win in our system. We provide a list of rules.
